The Science and Technology Facilities Council is passionate about inspiring the next generation of scientists and science communicators. It is also a strong supporter of skills development through mentoring of students. Here we show two short educational films, aimed at school-age children. The films were created and produced by young work-experience students who joined us this summer.
You can also check out some of our other educational resources for schools and families. Find out more about things like Big Data or Big Telescopes, and download posters, wall charts and teaching resources.
Atlas 1 Supercomputer animation
Back in 1967 the UK’s Atlas 1 supercomputer at our Rutherford Appleton Laboratory was used to create what is thought to be the world’s first computer-generated character animation! It is a very simple animation and you can try to improve it, add sound effects or other characters using Scratch.
